Lived experiences of crisis in rural Japan : An anthology on the transformation of communities and migration during the COVID-19 pandemic
This book provides a comprehensive examination of the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on rural Japan. It presents 30 selected blog posts from the blog “Urban-rural migration and rural revitalization in Japan” which emerged as part of the DFG-funded interdisciplinary research project with the same name. The contributions highlight key themes such as internal and transnational migration dynamics, housing challenges, and the growing transnational connections in rural Japan. The volume explores the motivations and experiences of urban-rural migrants and the broader socio-political implications of urban-rural migration and the COVID-19 pandemic for Japan’s countryside. Through diverse perspectives, the book captures the changing landscape of rural Japan, offering valuable insights into grassroots initiatives and government policies.
